The gap between our top and bottom performing students is one of the largest in the developed world.

That’s a real issue.

But rather than raising the performance of struggling schools, the Government wants to make schools more equal by dragging the top schools down.

New ‘Education Hubs’ will control 125 schools each and will take crucial decisions away from local schools.

They could transfer principals between schools to make them more equal. The hubs could move people in and out of zones in the name of ‘equity’.

That’s misguided.

The government can already help schools improve their leadership and governance.

Instead of taking decisions away from local communities, ACT believes the government should work with schools that need help.
